
THE WONDERS OF TENNIS BALL: TAKE THAT PAIN OFF YOUR BODY WITH JUST A TENNIS BALL!
One of the days in Possible Physiotherapy and Wellness Clinic, a home client had severe back pain, which was worse on the upper back. This pain made him really restless and low productive at work. On our first Consultation, a tennis ball was used in his back and just like magic, the pain was reduced by 80%. He couldn’t believe it!
If you’re experiencing pain in your body which seems to be coming from one area or point and is knot-like in nature (in most cases), you may be experiencing Trigger Point(s).
Many of us suffer from this pain without knowing how to get it off. Voila! Your cheap and handy tennis ball can do the job for you!
Knots are soothed by pressure and rubbing, and it’s easier to do so with a tennis ball, to achieve the expected relief result.
How to Use a Tennis Ball to Get Pain free
The basic Principle is Specific Pressure Application (SPA). So, SPA can be achieved by trapping the tennis ball in-between your body and a hard surface eg. the floor, wall (these two are most preferred), or another body part.
The idea is to use the ball to reach spots that you simply can’t get to with your hands. Tennis Ball massage is usually the most useful in back and hips muscles
First, put the most painful area in the ball. When you feel some feeling of “good pain”, keep at it until the pain reduces by 80%. Then, you can slide your body to move the ball to sore spots, horizontally (for low back) or vertically.
Hold on each sore spot for around 20 to 30 seconds. Perform this at least once a day, for a total of 2 to 3 minutes.
